4 Premium Motorcycle Routes in Latvia

Individually tailored 5-day motorcycle tours in Latvia — two chopper routes along the sea, castles and manors, two enduro expeditions through gravel roads, forests and lake country. All tours start and finish in Riga at the JavaCalm base, available guided or self-guided.

1. The Kurzeme Wind — Grand Baltic Coast Loop (CHOPPER)

The sea on your left, freedom straight ahead.

Venta Waterfall, Kuldiga

Five days in which Latvia’s western coast unfolds like a road movie: cobbled small towns, white dunes, lonely lighthouses and the smoke of fish smokehouses drifting over seaside villages. You will ride some of Latvia’s most beautiful coastal asphalt — from the waterfall town of Kuldīga to Cape Kolka, where two seas meet. Evenings bring manor houses, historic boutique hotels and the Latvian sauna ritual.

5 days · ~795 km · 90–95% asphalt · chopper / cruiser · group 2–8 bikes · mid-May – mid-September

5 "wow" moments:

  • Ventas Rumba in Kuldīga — widely considered the widest waterfall in Europe, in a UNESCO-listed wooden old town
  • Jūrkalne steep coast — up to 20 m bluffs over a near-empty white beach
  • Karosta in Liepāja — a former Tsarist and Soviet secret navy quarter with a prison museum
  • Cape Kolka — the meeting line of the Gulf of Riga and the open Baltic
  • The Livonian Coast road — villages of one of Europe’s smallest indigenous peoples

Price (per person, twin share, indicative): guided €1,790–2,290 · self-guided €1,090–1,490

Book your place in the sunset — the ride you’ll talk about for years.

2. Castles & Curves — The Gauja Valley Grand Tour (CHOPPER)

Every curve tells a story.

A ride for romantics and connoisseurs: the winding roads of the ancient Gauja valley, medieval castles by candlelight, a secret Soviet bunker hidden beneath a spa, and a brewery that has worked beside a manor since the 17th century. You will ride some of Vidzeme’s curviest asphalt through Sigulda, Cēsis and the Piebalga hills up to Latvia’s "rooftop" — Gaiziņkalns. Evenings belong to palaces: the grandeur of Dikļi Palace and the lakeside silence of Jumurda Manor.

5 days · ~700 km · ~95% asphalt · chopper / cruiser · group 2–8 bikes · May–September

5 "wow" moments:

  • Turaida Castle’s red towers over the forested Gauja valley
  • The Līgatne secret Soviet bunker — 2,000 m² of preserved 1980s infrastructure 9 m underground
  • Cēsis Medieval Castle explored with a live candle lantern
  • Beer tasting in the centuries-old brewing yard of Valmiermuiža
  • Sunset from Gaiziņkalns — Latvia’s highest point (312 m) with an observation tower

Price (per person, twin share, indicative): guided €1,890–2,390 · self-guided €1,190–1,590

Five days. Four castles. One unforgettable road. Book your dates.

3. Gravel Heart — Highlands & Lubāns Expedition (ENDURO)

Where the asphalt ends, the real Latvia begins.

Five days on Latvia’s gravel and forest roads — from the ancient Gauja valley to the vast openness of Lake Lubāns, where the sky feels bigger than anywhere else in the country. You will cross the Gauja on a historic cable ferry, summit Latvia’s highest point, and sleep in a lighthouse-style watchtower guesthouse at the edge of the country’s largest lake. More than half the route runs on gravel, forest and farm roads — a true adventure for experienced riders.

5 days · ~760 km · 50–60% gravel/forest roads · enduro / adventure · intermediate–advanced rider level · late May – early October

5 "wow" moments:

  • Crossing the Gauja on the Līgatne cable ferry — one of the last river cable ferries in the Baltics
  • The Piebalga ridge gravel — open-crest roads with views for kilometres in both directions
  • Gaiziņkalns tower at 312 m — "summiting" Latvia on an enduro
  • First sight of Lake Lubāns — an ~80 km² inland sea with near-oceanic horizons and white-tailed eagles overhead
  • A smoke-sauna night at a forest homestead — the oldest sauna tradition in the Baltics

Price (per person, twin share, indicative): guided €1,990–2,490 (incl. support vehicle) · self-guided €1,190–1,590

Leave the asphalt behind. Book the expedition.

4. Soul of Latgale — Lakes & Borderlands Expedition (ENDURO, FLAGSHIP)

The Latvia tourists never see.

Latvia’s furthest, warmest and most mysterious corner — five days on the country roads of Sēlija and Latgale. You will ride along the Daugava loops, visit an Old Believers’ village where time seems to have stopped a century ago, and stand before original Rothkos inside a Tsarist fortress. You will spin a potter’s wheel in a true Latgalian ceramics workshop, bake rye bread in Aglona and end the day in a sauna on the shore of Lake Rāzna. This is JavaCalm’s flagship expedition — the longest, the deepest, the one riders earn.

5 days · ~870 km (shortened "Latgale Direct" version ~770 km) · ~50% gravel/country roads · enduro / adventure · advanced rider level · support vehicle mandatory · max 6 riders · late May–September

5 "wow" moments:

  • Vasargelišķi tower view over the Daugava loops — nine giant river bends in protected wilderness
  • Slutišķi Old Believers’ village — carved wooden houses of a living religious community
  • Original Mark Rothko works in Daugavpils fortress
  • Aglona Basilica — the Baltics’ most important Catholic pilgrimage church
  • Mākoņkalns hillfort above Lake Rāzna — "Latgale’s sea" spread below an ancient castle mound

Price (per person, twin share, indicative): guided flagship €2,190–2,790 (support vehicle included) · "Latgale Direct" shortened edition €1,890–2,290
